According to the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard, the Vietnam Coast Guard is equipped with ships, aircraft and other means; weapons, explosives, supporting tools and technical and professional equipment to perform the assigned functions, tasks and powers.

The CSB 8004 ships patrols, inspects, controls and enforces law at sea.

 

 

 

Together with other investigating forces, the Vietnam Coast Guard has the right to handle administrative violations in accordance with the law on handling of administrative violations; conduct criminal investigations, chase ships in violation of laws at sea or arrest ships in accordance with the law.

The Article 17 of the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard stipulates the right to pursue ships at sea.

Specifically, the Vietnam Coast Guard exercises the right to chase ships in the following cases:

- Violation of national sovereignty, sovereignty right, jurisdiction at sea;

- Not obey the signals and commands of the Vietnam Coast Guard to stop;

- Implementing international cooperation in pursuit activities ...

The scope of operation of this force is within Vietnamese waters. However, for the humanitarian, peaceful purposes, crime prevention and fight, they may operate outside Vietnamese waters. While operating its duties, it is required to comply with Vietnamese laws, international treaties to which Vietnam is a signatory, and international agreements relating to the functions, duties and powers of the Vietnam Coast Guard.

The Law on Vietnam Coast Guard includes 8 chapters and 41 articles and it took effect on July 1, 2019.
