Search and rescue at sea is one of the regular missions of the Coast Guard in the waters of Vietnam. To get information and quickly access to ships in distress or incidents at sea, over the years, the Vietnam Coast Guard has set up hotlines with 7 countries in the region and maintained the operation of the information sharing center with law enforcement forces of 20 countries.

Recently, the Vietnam Coast Guard has cooperated with the coast guard forces of other countries to arrest foreign armed pirates, rescuing many sailors and ships. The Vietnam Coast Guard also rescued many cargo ships suffering from fire and explosion incidents when passing through Vietnamese waters as well as hundreds of fishing boats in distress every year.
