Tech giants like Google, Facebook, and YouTube are among the foreign suppliers registering for tax compliance.

Mr. Vu Le Huy, Deputy Director of the IT Department at the General Department of Taxation, highlighted that Vietnam's tax sector has been at the forefront of applying information technology to meet tax administration needs.

Electronic tax filing was first introduced in 2009, and over the past 15 years, more than 100 million e-tax returns and 50 million electronic tax payment transactions have been submitted to tax authorities.

Since July 2022, all businesses, organizations, and individuals have transitioned to using electronic invoices. This shift is supported by a modern IT infrastructure that employs Industry 4.0 technologies to handle, store, and manage the data associated with electronic invoices.

The electronic invoice system now allows sellers and buyers to access their entire invoicing history via the General Department of Taxation’s e-portal. This capability is crucial for monitoring production and business activities. To date, the system has processed over 9.9 billion electronic invoices.

The e-Tax Portal specifically designed for foreign suppliers enables them to register, declare, and pay taxes remotely from anywhere in the world.

The system has attracted 110 foreign suppliers from countries such as the United States, Singapore, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Together, these suppliers have paid over VND 6.234 trillion in taxes in 2024 alone.

Additionally, the tax sector has launched an e-commerce information portal to facilitate tax reporting by businesses and individuals operating on e-commerce platforms. So far, 407 platforms have submitted information to tax authorities through this portal.
