According to information provided by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, one Vietnamese national has died and several others sustained injuries as a result of the earthquake.

Immediately after receiving the information, Vietnam's diplomatic missions in Japan coordinated with local authorities, employers, labor unions and the victim's family to verify the details and implement citizen protection measures.

Vietnamese diplomatic officials traveled directly to the affected area to work with relevant authorities, assist the victim's family with the necessary procedures in accordance with regulations, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens, and visit and encourage Vietnamese workers employed at nearby businesses.

For Vietnamese citizens who were injured or whose homes were damaged by the earthquake, Vietnam's representative offices in Japan have worked closely with the Vietnamese Association in Kumamoto to assess the situation, visit affected individuals and coordinate support for those impacted.

During the implementation of citizen protection measures, Vietnam's diplomatic missions also recognized and commended many Vietnamese nationals who actively participated in supporting local communities affected by the disaster.

In the coming days, Vietnam's representative offices in Japan will continue working closely with Kumamoto authorities and Vietnamese community organizations to review the situation of Vietnamese citizens and promptly provide any additional consular assistance required.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that aftershocks could continue over the next one to two weeks. Vietnamese citizens living in Kumamoto are advised to closely monitor and follow guidance and warnings issued by Japanese authorities, Vietnam's diplomatic missions in Japan and local Vietnamese community organizations.

Japanese media reported that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said 13 people had died following the series of earthquakes that struck Kumamoto Prefecture. The figure includes several deaths believed to be related to the earthquakes.

The earthquake struck on July 28 with a magnitude of 7.1. Its epicenter was located beneath the seabed off the coast of Kumamoto Prefecture at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
