VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam successfully defended its top position at the third Asian Pencak Silat Championship that ended in South Korea yesterday.

Pencak Silat is an umbrella term for a class of Indonesian martial arts.

Viet Nam pocketed 13 medals, eight gold, four silver and one bronze, at the six-day tournament.

Among the gold medal winners were Pham Thi Tuoi in the women’s 50kg category, Tran Thi Them in women’s 55kg, Nguyen Thai Linh in men’s 60kg and Tran Dinh Nam in men’s 75kg. All the eight gold medals were in “tanding” (combat) categories.

Indonesia was second with four gold medals, followed by Philippines with two.

In the second championship held last year in Singapore, Vietnamese athletes won 10 gold medals.
