Le Van Hung from Gia Lam district in Hanoi, who regularly has medical examinations at Buu Dien Hospial, said that he had previously presented health insurance card and ID cards to hospital’s officers who entered data into the information system, printed papers, and forwarded to specialized consulting rooms. This was a long process which took a lot of time.
However, over the last two years, the situation has changed. As his personal documents are now in the database, he doesn’t have to bring print his health care card and he can be sent to specialists just after several steps taken by hospital officers.
Le Huong, a pharmacist at a hospital in Hanoi, sais that digital transformation has facilitated medical examination and treatment processes and eased the workload for doctors and nurses.
By scanning a QR code or using the VNeID application, hospitals can access valid information about patients’ health insurance status. Medical facilities no longer need a lot of time to verify and cross-check health insurance details.
“Thanks to digital transformation, the procedures for medical check-ups have significantly reduced. Previously, it took from minutes to several hours to follow procedures, but now, it takes every patient 6-15 seconds to verify their information,” Huong explained.
In addition to improved convenience in medical services, digital transformation has expedited the payment of pensions and social insurance benefits through personal accounts (cashless), making the process quicker, safer, and risk minimizing.
To date, pension payments through bank accounts have been implemented in 63 provinces and cities nationwide. In some localities, the ratio of cashless payments have reached over 90 percent. In Hanoi, for example, the figure is 98.5 percent in pension and monthly social insurance benefit payment; and 96.97 percent in one-time benefit payment, and 99.85 percent in unemployment insurance benefits.
Furthermore, digital transformation allows citizens to conduct various transactions such as renewing health care cards, registering births and deaths, and applying for unemployment benefits directly at home through the National Public Service Portal.
Striving for digital social insurance
Nguyen The Manh, General Director of Vietnam Social Security, noted that digital transformation in social insurance has enabled citizens and businesses to access information and complete administrative procedures anytime, anywhere, across multiple platforms.
Digital transformation has also minimized paperwork and procedures. By verifying and integrating information in applications like VssID and VNeID, people no longer need to carry multiple documents for medical treatments or deal with social insurance agencies. This also reduces the administrative burden on businesses.
