VietNamNet Bridge - The Vietnam national men's football squad slipped four places from 140 to 144 in the latest FIFA rankings for July.


The national team secured a 13-1 aggregate win over Macau (China) in the first qualifying round for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Zone this month; however, they suffered a 3-0 loss to Qatar on July 23 in the first led of the second qualifying round. As a result, with a gain of only four points, Vietnam were unable to improve their position in the FIFA rankings.

Thailand are still on top in Southeast Asia, placed 119th in the FIFA rankings, thanks to a recent 1-0 win over Palestine in the second qualifying round for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Asian Zone. Singapore made major progress this month, moving up 11 spots to stand 131st in the world.

Japan, Australia and the Republic of Korea continue to lead the list in Asia.

In the world top ten, Spain and the Netherlands retained the first two places, followed by Germany and Brazil. Uruguay jumped 13 places to stand at No 5, thanks to their championship win at Copa America 2011.
