According to the FIFA world rankings released on October 24, the Vietnam national football team continued to drop, while Thailand made history with a significant climb.
In October, the Vietnam team played a friendly match against India on home soil. Despite their efforts, coach Kim Sang Sik’s team only managed a draw, which resulted in a deduction of 0.27 points from their FIFA ranking.
This led to Vietnam falling three spots, from 116th to 119th in the latest FIFA rankings. This is the lowest position for the "Golden Star Warriors" since November 2017.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's rival, the Thailand national team, continued its impressive rise. With two victories over the Philippines and Syria, along with winning the King's Cup, the "War Elephants" gained 8.7 points, climbing four places to 96th in the world. This places them in the top 15 in Asia, leaving Vietnam 23 places behind.
Moreover, this is the highest position that the Thailand national team has achieved in the last 16 years. The last time they reached a similarly impressive rank was in June 2008, when they were 93rd in the FIFA rankings.
Another representative from Southeast Asia, the Indonesia national team, fell one spot to 130th after losing to China in the third round of the World Cup qualifiers.
In the Asian region, Japan remains at the top, entering the world's top 15. They are followed by Iran, South Korea, Australia, and others.
The top seven teams in the FIFA rankings remained unchanged from September, with Argentina holding the top spot, followed by France, Spain, England, Brazil, Belgium, and others.
