Vietnam drops to lowest place in FIFA world rankings in eight years.

Their new position means the national team has fallen out of the FIFA top 110 for the first time since March, 2018.

This is also Vietnam’s lowest position in eight years, since November, 2017, when they ranked 125th. The team ranked 19th in Asia and second in Southeast Asia, behind Thailand at 101st place.

Due to two losses at the hands of Indonesia in qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Vietnam were deducted a total of 30.04 points, dropping from 105th to 115th.

Meanwhile, Indonesia climbed to 124th in the world ranking from 142nd place thanks to their strong results.

The FIFA world rankings, usually updated every one or two months, are based on the coefficient of matches played.  It is considered to be the basis for seeding in the qualifying rounds and main events of FIFA tournaments, such as the World Cup and Asian Cup.
