The AFC Futsal Championship had originally been scheduled to take place in Kuwait between March 23 and April 3, although after their borders closed as part of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic prevention measures, the Asian Football Federation decided to cancel the tournament.
The regional body will therefore select a total of five representatives who have recorded the best achievements in the recent past to compete at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
The 2016 version of the global competition was held in Colombia, with the Vietnamese team among the leading four Asian representatives after recording a historic victory over Guatemala 4-2 in the qualifiers.
The FIFA Futsal World Cup is held every four years, with the eighth edition of the tournament originally being scheduled to take place in Lithuania from September 12, 2020, to October 4, 2020.
However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic the event was postponed until September 12 to October 3 of this year. Going into the tournament, the national team of Argentina are the current champions. VOV
