Both the US and China are major powers and important partners of Vietnam, stated Hang in response to a question raised by a reporter of Phoenix Television of Hong Kong (China) regarding Vietnam’s reactions in the face of current US-China tensions.

As the relations between the US and China affect peace, stability, and prosperity globally, Vietnam holds that the two countries maintain healthy and stable relations and resolve all disagreements through dialogue in line with international law, said Hang.

She affirmed that ‘Vietnam will continue to promote relations with the US and China on the principles of respecting independence, self-reliance, mutual respect, and mutually beneficial cooperation, in the interest of the people and for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the wider world’.

Tensions between the US and China have risen following a recent visit to Taiwan (China) by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Hang said Vietnam believes that peace, stability and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait is of great significance to the region and the world amid the current regional and international complications.

She reiterated Vietnam’s consistent stance on upholding the ‘One-China policy’ which has been reflected in joint documents issued during high-level visits by leaders of Vietnam and China.

Vietnam calls on concerned parties to exercise restraint, not increase tensions across the Taiwan Strait, and actively contribute to maintaining peace and stability as well as promoting cooperation and development in the region and the rest of the world, stressed the spokesperson.
