Update news Vietnam Food Association
The Vietnam Food Association has petitioned authorities to prioritise customs clearance of consignments of rice exports stuck at ports.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has proposed resuming rice exports from April, with a volume of 400,000 tonnes, after it has compiled reports on production, domestic consumption and exports to submit to the Prime Minister.
Vietnam exported 560,000 tonnes of rice in January 2020, earning US$270.3 million, an increase of 12 per cent in volume and 39 per cent in value month-on-month, according to the General Department of Customs.
The government of Thailand has approved a budget of 21.5 billion baht to ensure a rice price at a reasonable level for Thai farmers. The policy is expected to have a negative impact on other export countries, including Vietnam.
