VietNamNet Bridge - According to the latest rankings of FIFA, Vietnam’s national football team earned 15 points and 2 spots up on the rankings thanks to a surprise 2-1 victory over Qatar.

Two goals scored by Trong Hoang in the game against Qatar helped Vietnam earn two spots in FIFA rankings in October.

 

 

In October, the national squad played two games, including a 2-1 victory against Qatar and a 1-3 defeat against Uzbekistan. The winning match brought 237.36 points for Vietnam while the defeat game did not bring any point to the team.

The final score of the team calculated by computer, based on its performance in the last four years, is 159 points, much higher than the figure of 144 of last month. Thus, Vietnam rose from 153rd to 151st in the FIFA rankings.

Moving up in the overall rankings but in Southeast Asia, Vietnam dropped from 3rd to 4th due to the uptake of Myanmar. This team did not play any game in the month but it suddenly rose by 45 points and jumped from 162nd to 149th.

Thailand no longer holds the number one position in the region since it dropped by four spots in the month after being defeated by Iran for 1-2. The leading team of Southeast Asia is the Philippines, which ranks 137th in the world, 6 spots more than Thailand.

A number of countries in the region also moved up on the FIFA rankings, such as Singapore (from 159th to 155th), Malaysia (161st to 160th), Indonesia (170th to 162nd) and Laos (172nd to 167th). At the bottom of the region are still Brunei and Timor-Leste (193rd both) and Cambodia (198th).
