Professor Cao Ngoc Thanh , headmaster of the Medicine University in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue said that Vietnam has around 150,000 fresh cancer cases per year including 70,000 deaths.

The professor said at an international seminar on cancer held on November 7th by the university and Health Volunteers Overseas in the US with the participation of professor and medical experts in the country and US, Australian experts.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death after heart diseases. Vietnam also has the high rate of gynecological cancers in the globe and the number of young women having gynecological cancers is spiraling. Worse, most of cancer cases are late diagnosed causing difficulties and threatening patients' lives.

Seminar participants said that there has been a drastic increase in uncommunicable diseases including gynecological cancers.

Also at the seminar, experts delivered speech of staging of gynecological cancer, ways of screening, detailed treatment for each stage, taking care and advanced treatment methods applied in hospitals in the world to help increase treatment effectiveness.
