2022 is the first year that eSports was recognized as a competitive sport within the framework of the 31st SEA Games.
This was also the year Vietnamese e-sports won a lot of prizes, including: Men's team gold medal for League of Legends, individual gold medal for Raid, silver medal for FIFA Online 4, team’s gold medal for PUBG Mobile, and silver medal for Lien Quan Mobile.
Considering the contributions of e-sports athletes in 2022, the Vietnam E-Sports and Entertainment Association asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to honor and recognize and rank eSports athletes in 2023.
Accordingly, 83 athletes reached the level of grandmaster, 15 athletes reached national level, and 7 coaches reached national level.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong - Chairman of Vietnam E-Sports and Entertainment Association - said that after 15 years of development, online sports and recreational sports in Vietnam have made encouraging achievements. Honoring and ranking athletes in this field will help people have a more positive view of a healthy new sport.
