Since 2018, the percentage of smartphone subscribers to total mobile phone subscribers has continuously increased, from 59.2% in 2018 to 65.09% in 2019, 69 ,55% in 2020 and 75% this year. The rate of fiber optic cable coverage to households in 2021 is 65%, up 10% compared to 2020.

The development of broadband digital infrastructure to each person and each family has been identified by the Ministry of Information and Communications as one of the key tasks serving the national digital transformation. Regarding infrastructure development targets, the Ministry said that from 2023, 100% of people will switch to smartphones and before 2025, each household will have a super broadband fiber optic internet line.

As of December 2021, the number of .vn national domain names reached 544,361 domain names, an increase of 5.2% compared to the end of 2020, belonging to the top 11 countries and territories in Asia- Pacific and 45th globally.

The revenue of telecommunications services in 2021 is estimated at 130,768 billion VND, up 2% compared to 2020.

In 2021, the Ministry of Information and Communications granted licenses to test 5G services in 16 provinces and cities with 300 5G base stations, with an average speed of 500-600 Mbps, 10 times higher than the speed of 4G.
