Vietnam has proposed signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on national defence cooperation and another MOU extending a framework for defence industry cooperation with Israel.

Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh made the proposal at a meeting with Dan Camen, Israeli defence counsellor to Thailand and Vietnam, in Hanoi on August 12.

Vinh also stressed the need to establish a joint working group on defence cooperation with Israel to further develop bilateral defence ties.

He expressed hope that Israel will appoint a defence attaché to Vietnam in the near future.

The Deputy Minister noted since the two countries established diplomatic ties in July 1993, both sides have maintained regular exchange visits and strengthened cooperation in all realms, including economics, trade, education, science-technology, agriculture, health care, as well as in national defence.

For his part, Dan Camen said Israel attaches importance to cooperation with Vietnam, including national defence, in the spirit of mutual respect, trust and understanding.

He said during his new assignment he will try his best to boost defence ties between Israel and Vietnam in a deep and practical manner, up to each country’s potential and strength.
