Vietnam’s Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and Italian technology group Temix have launched a joint space technology center in Hanoi, aiming to develop local expertise and products in satellite communications and aerospace electronics.

The Vietnam-Italy Space Technology Center is envisioned as an open platform for research, technology development, advanced training and industrial cooperation in space technology and related fields.

The Vietnam-Italy Space Technology Center (VISTC), unveiled on September 17, is a joint research and technology development platform co-founded by PTIT and Temix.

Based at PTIT, the center will build on the existing Temix mmWave Systems-PTIT Advanced Design Center. It is envisioned as an open platform for research and technology development, advanced training and industrial collaboration in space technology, aerospace systems, telecommunications and avionics.

The launch coincided with the first anniversary of the Temix mmWave Systems-PTIT Advanced Design Center and the 60th anniversary of PTIT’s Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications.

The expanded partnership was formalized through the signing of a second memorandum of understanding between PTIT and Temix.

From the laboratory to ‘Made in Vietnam’ products

The Temix mmWave Systems-PTIT Advanced Design Center was established on September 4, 2025, following a memorandum of understanding signed at the Vietnam-Italy Business Forum in Hanoi.

It was created to expand multidisciplinary research and design capabilities in telecommunications and aerospace technology, while providing advanced technology design services to organizations and businesses in Asia and the Middle East.

After a year of operation, the center has gradually built capabilities in research, design and product development, laying the groundwork for its eventual development into a research institute.

It has brought together more than 30 young engineers and researchers with master’s and doctoral degrees and developed a range of high-tech products.

These include equipment for satellite communications, software-defined communication systems, electronics and computing systems, and specialized radio equipment designed for integration into aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellites and ground-based platforms.

“A year ago, we established a design center; today, we are launching a broader cooperation platform for space technology research, industrial development and advanced training,” Temix founder and Chairman Armando Caravella said at the launch.

“This demonstrates the solid development of our partnership. We are connecting Vietnam’s academic capabilities with Temix’s industrial experience in electronics for space technology through a long-term cooperation framework, where human resources are trained and products are researched and developed here in Vietnam.”

An open platform for space technology research

PTIT President Dang Hoai Bac said the partnership with Temix creates an important bridge between research, education and industry.

“The new center will help strengthen PTIT’s capabilities in researching and developing advanced technologies, attract international experts and resources, and train high-quality human resources for Vietnam’s growing space technology and aerospace sectors,” he said.

VISTC is intended to operate as an open international platform connecting PTIT and Temix with universities, research institutes, businesses, experts and researchers from Vietnam, Italy and other countries.

The center aims to bring together specialists, academics, engineers, students, graduate students, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers to tackle advanced technological challenges in space technology and aerospace electronics.

The initiative also seeks to connect academic research more closely with industrial applications, with an emphasis on developing skills and technology products in Vietnam rather than limiting the partnership to research alone.

Its areas of work span satellite technology and communications, aerospace systems, avionics and other technologies that can be deployed across aircraft, drones, satellites and ground infrastructure.

The initiative aligns with Vietnam’s national strategic priorities for science, technology and digital transformation, including research and domestic satellite production.

It is also expected to strengthen the presence of Italian industry in Asia by facilitating technology transfer and deeper cooperation between Vietnamese researchers and Italian technology companies.
