The Viet Nam Marine Turtle Conservation Action Plan will be implemented over the next decade under a Memorandum of Understanding between Viet Nam and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) signed an MoU with IUCN on Friday on the conservation and development of aquatic resources.

The two bodies will co-operate to conserve marine species and ecosystems in Viet Nam, promote information exchanges and technical assistance for globally threatened marine species, manage Marine Protected Areas more effectively, and build sustainable finances for conservation and development of aquatic resources.

Viet Nam has zoned off 16 national marine conservation sites, MARD Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam said at the signing ceremony. He added that he hoped the MoU would produce practical results to protect aquatic plants and animals.
