In recent years 4.9 million Japanese have been visiting Asian countries each year, and Vietnam is the second most popular choice for them behind only Thailand.

Vietnam welcomed over 800,000 Japanese last year, and statistics show a steady rise in numbers from 647,000 in 2014.

The áo dài (traditional long dress) and Vietnamese cuisine are among the attractions for Japanese, and the Mekong Delta, Da Nang, Hue, Hoi An, and Ha Long Bay are the favourite destinations in the country.

Japan also attracts a large number of Vietnamese visitors. Some 300,000 went to this country in the first eight months of this year.
