They discussed strategy to promote tourism and bring more tourists to each other’s markets during a workshop held on Saturday in Hanoi. Delegates from the VN National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) attended the event.

The JATA delegation also visited some destinations in the northern provinces of Hoa Binh and Lao Cai.

Ngo Hoai Chung, deputy director of the VNAT, said Japan is an important market for Vietnamese travel companies. VN attends the JATA Tourism Expo annually to seek cooperation opportunities and introduce Vietnamese tourism.

VN has exempted Japanese tourists from visa requirements since 2004. Chung expects Japan will soon exempt Vietnamese tourists from visa requirements.

Chung said nearly 500,000 tourists from Japan had visited Vietnam within the first eight months of 2016.
