At the ceremony, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son met with key members of President Trump’s cabinet, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and Jared Kushner, a member of the Peace Council’s executive board.
Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam values President Donald Trump’s efforts to advance peace, cooperation, and global prosperity, and expressed Vietnam’s readiness to join the Gaza Peace Council as a founding member.
Vietnam looks forward to working with other Council members to implement the Gaza Peace Plan, which was approved under UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025. Vietnam’s approach is grounded in its consistent position on the Palestine issue, aligned with international law and the UN Charter.
Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son also conveyed the message of General Secretary To Lam, expressing appreciation for President Trump’s continued support for Vietnam–US relations and for backing a “strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.”
He also extended General Secretary To Lam’s invitation for President Trump and the First Lady to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
Members of the Trump cabinet expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s decision to join the Peace Council, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the Vietnam–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They supported accelerating talks on reciprocal tax agreements and welcomed Vietnam’s participation as a founding member of the Gaza Peace Council. President Trump, they said, looks forward to visiting Vietnam when conditions permit.
On the sidelines of the event, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son also met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, who conveyed warm greetings to General Secretary To Lam and congratulated the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

President Aliyev expressed his desire to visit Vietnam in 2026 to further promote the strategic partnership and expand on the high-level agreements reached during General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025 - especially in energy, technology, and other key sectors.
President Aliyev also welcomed Vietnam’s decision to co-found the Peace Council, saying both countries should collaborate closely and share development experience to contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza and other conflict-affected regions.
Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son also held talks with foreign ministers from several countries and senior representatives of the Gaza Peace Council, including former UN Special Envoy for the Middle East Nickolay Mladenov, to explore areas of cooperation under the Peace Council framework and in bilateral relations.
International partners welcomed Vietnam’s decision to join the Gaza Peace Council, expressing confidence that the country’s resilient post-war recovery experience and consistent foreign policy will be a meaningful contribution to regional peace and reconstruction.
