The index shows Vietnam finishes in 62nd place, alongside Myanmar, Singapore, Japan, Canada, Egypt, Italy, and Luxembourg.
Nikkei’s COVID-19 Recovery Index ranks a total of 121 countries and territories on factors such as infection management, vaccine rollout, and social mobility.
A higher ranking indicates that a country is closer to recovery with figures such as low numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases, strong vaccination rates and less stringent social distancing measures all being taken into account.
January 2022 witnessed Vietnam climb 28 spots to reach 90th position in Nikkei’s COVID-19 Recovery Index thanks to its high vaccine coverage and the initial signs of tourism recovery.
The Ministry of Health has reported that there are currently over 1.3 million COVID-19 cases in Vietnam, including 473 in severe conditions.
The average number of new infections last week was 2% of the infections seen during the peak period, with new cases, severe cases, and deaths all decreasing.
On May 8, Vietnam recorded 2,269 new COVID-19 cases, including one imported case in 40 out of 63 localities nationwide.
More than 215 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, including 1.82 million doses given to children aged five to 12.
