Vietnam attaches great importance to developing friendship and cooperation with Brazil, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a reception for Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota in Hanoi on July 6.

FM Patriota conveyed a message from Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rousseff to senior Vietnamese leaders affirming that Brazil is eager to elevate its ties of friendship and cooperation with Vietnam to a comprehensive partnership since Vietnam plays an important role in ASEAN and is considered a dynamic economy and a potential market.

The Brazilian diplomat expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation and national hero late President Ho Chi Minh. He praised the socio-economic development achievements Vietnam has recorded during its Doi Moi (Renewal) process, adding that his country hopes to boost cooperation in both sides’ strengths such as bio-fuels, science, technology, culture and sports.

Brazil will coordinate closely with Vietnam in international organizations and multilateral forums and it is also interested in the Southeast Asian situation and peace, stability and security in the East Sea, said Mr Patriota.

PM Dung asked the two governments to improve specific and practical cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, culture, education, sustainable development and poverty reduction. He also urged them to sign agreements towards a favourable legal framework for developing all-round cooperation.

Trade between the two countries has grown notably over the years but is still far from matching its full potential therefore, the two governments should create the pest possible conditions for ministries, sectors, localities and businesses to promote direct partnerships.

FM Pham Binh Minh held talks with his Brazilian counterpart on the same day to discuss bilateral ties, as well as regional and international issues of common concern.

The two FMs agreed to strengthen the exchange of delegations at all levels, and maintain regular and effective operation of the Inter Government Cooperation Committee, and consultation mechanisms between the two foreign ministries.

They also consented to boost cooperation in the framework of South-South and tripartite cooperation and consider the early signing of a framework agreement on technical cooperation, as well as an education cooperation agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agriculture.

FM Patriota also congratulated Vietnam on the successful organization of the Vietnam-Latin America Trade and Investment Forum on July 5-6 while FM Binh Minh thanked Brazil for joining the event which, he said, contributed to its success.
