A recent survey by TopCV of 2,200 businesses and 3,000 workers found that by the end of 2022, IT software had been one of the three most sought-after positions, but also the three most difficult positions to recruit, employ and retain.

The number of candidates applying for jobs in the IT field and the failure to satisfy professional requirements  were the two biggest reasons behind the shortage of IT software engineers.

TopCV’s report on the 2022 recruitment market and 2023 recruitment demand predicted that IT software, business/sales, and marketing/media/advertisement would continue to be the three most sought-after positions this year.

Another recruitment platform, TopDev, pointed out that the demand for human resources in software and IT in Vietnam is increasingly high, while there is a shortage of IT engineers.

According to the IT Vietnam Market – Tech Hiring 2022 Report, foreign investment has brought great opportunities to the domestic IT market. Regional IT firms have begun coming to Vietnam to recruit and hire engineer staff to develop products for them.

Meanwhile, enterprises in many different business fields such as tourism, agriculture and real estate are carrying out digital transformation and applying the e-commerce model.

This has all led to higher demand for IT workers and added to the shortage of IT human resources.

According to TopDev, the pay offered by tech firms in Vietnam is between $350 a month (for new graduates) and $1,190 (for mid-level officers). Meanwhile, senior developers can earn from $860 to $1,510 a month. The managerial positions (with at least five years’ experience) or higher level can earn from $1,410 to over $2,300.

Analysts said that the Covid-19 pandemic has stimulated online consumer behaviors. In such conditions, enterprises need to use more software and IT workers to develop sales platforms. This is an important reason which makes the demand for IT workers increase sharply.

After the pandemic, working habits have changed and foreign companies tend to recruit IT workers who work online. Therefore, IT workers in Vietnam have more job opportunities.

The development of NFT, blockchain and securities also affects the labor market as part of IT resources have left the market to pursue these new fields.
