VietNamNet Bridge – The traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos are an invaluable asset and an important factor behind the success of the revolution in each country.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong addressed the grand meeting in Hanoi on July 18.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was speaking at a grand meeting in Hanoi on July 18 to mark 50 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Laos and 35 years of the signing of their Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.

As close border neighbours, said Mr Trong, Vietnam and Laos have built a special relationship that has stood the test of time and developed vigorously over the years.

Unlike other relationships in the history of the contemporary world, said Mr Trong, the Vietnam-Laos relationship has been built up and nurtured by many generations of leaders and people of the two revolutions during the course of history.

Currently, both countries are entering a new period of speeding up the Renewal process, and proactively integrating into the world.

More than ever, the two Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos should continue to preserve and develop the ties of traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, considering them an invaluable asset for future generations, stressed Mr Trong.

For his part, Vice State President Bounhang Volachit expressed Laos’ gratitude to late Presidents Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam, and Kaysone Phomvihan and Souphanouvong of Laos who founded the special Lao-Vietnam relationship.

He recalled the combat alliance between the two countries over the past 50 years, and said in the face of global complications, this special relationship has developed substantially and comprehensively, meeting the aspirations and interests of the two Parties, States and peoples.

The Party, State and people of Laos will do their utmost to preserve and develop the ties of traditional friendship and special solidarity with Vietnam, Volachit affirmed.

He expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, comprehensive cooperation between the two countries will continue to bear fruit, contributing to peace, friendship, cooperation, and regional and global integration, as well as for peace and prosperity of all nations.

Representatives of the two countries’ young generations vowed to work and study hard to develop the Vietnam-Laos ties.
Vietnam and Laos established diplomatic ties on September 5, 1962, and signed the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty on July 18, 1977.
