Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, and other senior leaders performed the ceremonial launch of the network, marking a significant milestone in Vietnam’s efforts to enhance policy communication.
At the event, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung presented commendations to agencies and units that excelled in policy communication throughout the year.
The initiative follows Prime Minister’s Directive No. 07, issued in March 2023, which emphasizes that policy communication is a critical responsibility of administrative bodies at all levels. It identifies journalism and other forms of media as fundamental channels for disseminating information.
Achievements in policy communication
Over the past year, awareness and funding for policy communication have increased significantly.
Local budgets for policy communication rose by an average of 10%, with some areas reporting increases of up to 50%.
A nationwide network of over 13,000 policy communication coordinators was established.
91 out of 93 ministries and localities developed plans to implement Directive No. 07.
Policy-related articles accounted for nearly 20% of all media content in 2024, more than doubling since the directive was issued.
The strengthened coordination between media outlets and policymakers has led to more effective dissemination of information and greater public engagement.
Support for policy communication
In June 2024, the MIC issued a circular guiding the development and approval of technical and economic standards for the media sector. This provides greater autonomy for press agencies in managing their operations.
Over the past year, the MIC also: Conducted training sessions for thousands of officials across the country. Published a comprehensive policy communication handbook. Proposed increased funding for media organizations tasked with public policy communication. Advanced digital transformation in journalism to enhance communication efficiency.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung highlighted the importance of integrating economic considerations into journalism. He noted that revisions to the Press Law would include provisions allowing major media outlets to engage in content-related business activities to sustain operations.
"The effectiveness of policy communication is ultimately measured by the public's trust," said Minister Hung. "To achieve this, communication must pave the way, accompany implementation, and bring policies to life in practice."
