Data from Vietnam's 2026 national high school graduation examination has identified 11 national toppers and 47 runners-up across the five traditional university admission subject combinations: A00, A01, B00, C00 and D01.
Following the Ministry of Education and Training's release of this year's exam results, the highest-scoring candidates in the country's traditional admission blocks have gradually emerged.
According to VietNamNet's statistics, the 2026 examination produced a total of 11 national toppers and 47 runners-up across the five major subject combinations.
In the A00 combination (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry), there was only one national topper with a perfect score of 30 out of 30: Nguyen Khac Cong, a student in Class 12A1 at Tan Yen No. 1 High School in Bac Ninh Province.
Apart from the national topper, 16 candidates shared runner-up honours with 29.75 points.
In the A01 combination (Mathematics, Physics and English), three students jointly claimed the top position with 29.75 points: Hoang Huong Giang from Class 12 Mathematics 1 at Hanoi National University of Education High School for Gifted Students; Nguyen Trung Thai Son from Class 12A2 Information Technology at the High School for Gifted Students under the VNU University of Science; and Hoang Quang Minh from Class 12A1 at An Thi High School in Hung Yen Province.
Four candidates ranked as runners-up in this combination with 29.5 points.
The B00 combination (Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology) recorded four national toppers with perfect scores of 30: Nguyen Le Yen Nhi (Class 12B4) and Dinh Ngoc Hai Lam (Class 12B2), both from Le Thanh Tong Primary, Secondary and High School in Ho Chi Minh City; Huynh Diem My from Class 12A1 at Nguyen Cong Tru No. 1 High School in Dak Lak Province; and Tran Quang Thang from the specialised Biology class at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City.
Thirteen candidates achieved runner-up status with 29.75 points.
The C00 combination (Literature, History and Geography) had one national topper with 28.75 points: Nguyen Thanh Binh, born in 2006.
Unlike this year's graduating cohort, Binh was a private candidate and graduated two years earlier. He is a former student of Nguyen Du High School for the Gifted in Dak Lak Province and is currently a second-year student majoring in International Commercial Law at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.
Eight candidates shared runner-up honours in the C00 combination with 28.5 points.
The D01 combination (Mathematics, Literature and English) had two joint national toppers, each scoring 29 points: Nguyen Xuan Tue Minh from Class 12A3 at the High School for Foreign Languages under VNU University of Languages and International Studies, and Nguyen Diep Anh from Class 12A at Dewey School Hanoi.
Six candidates ranked as runners-up with 28.5 points.
Recognition of high school graduation results will be completed no later than July 3.
Candidates may submit requests for score reviews between July 1 and July 5.
For students graduating in 2026, eligibility for university admission under all selection methods requires a minimum combined score of 15 out of 30 across three admission subjects (or Mathematics, Literature and one additional subject), excluding bonus or priority points. This requirement does not apply to candidates granted special graduation recognition.
For the 2026 university admissions cycle, candidates may register a maximum of 15 application preferences, replacing the previous system that imposed no limit.
Teacher-training institutions will only consider applicants' first to fifth preferences, while military and public security academies will follow regulations issued by the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security.
Candidates are therefore advised to arrange their application preferences carefully. In addition to previous years' admission benchmarks, they should also consider subject combinations, tuition fees, institutional reputation, academic orientation and career prospects after graduation.
