The VFF Central Committee held an event in Hanoi on July 13 to publicise the initial use of the donations via text messages to the COVID-19 combat.
The text-to-donate campaign was launched in early June by the VFF Central Committee, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, and the Ministry of Information and Communications.
So far, 2.5 million text messages have sent to 1408 of the National Humanitarian Portal, donating 115 billion VND (nearly 5 million USD) to the COVID-19 vaccine fund of the Government.
Thanks to the donations via text messages, over 8 trillion VND transferred to the fund, and funding from the State budget, Vietnam has secured sufficient financial resources for administering 150 million vaccine doses for all people, Chien said.
He thanked philanthropists, businesses, Vietnamese people both at home and abroad, and foreigners in the country for their contributions.
Given the pandemic’s prolonged and complex developments, which still require large financial resources to counter, the official expressed his hope that the VFF Central Committee will receive more support for this combat.
So far, Vietnam has secured 105 million vaccine doses committed for this year and is working to get 150 million doses so as to achieve herd immunity in late 2021 or early 2022. As many as 8.7 million doses are scheduled to arrive in the country this July./.
