VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam got off to a flying start at the ongoing 2013 Asian Youth Chess Championships in Sari, Mazandaran, Iran, with Le Tuan Minh and Tran Tuan Minh each winning a gold medal in the boys’ U-18 and U-16 rapid categories, respectively.

Tran Tuan Minh produced a stunning performance in the boys’ U-16 group, scoring a final total of seven points following his seven consecutive wins to claim the overall title.
Meanwhile, teammate Le Tuan Minh finished on top of the boys’ U-18 rapid event with 6.5 points. He shared the same score with Iran’s second seeded Javanbakht Nima but took the overall crown thanks to his earlier personal victory against Nima in the third round.
The tournament is taking place in Sari from June 19 to 27 with the participation of 270 chess players representing 15 countries and territories across the continent. The competitors, including 20 from Vietnam, are vying for medals in boys and girls’ U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 age groups.
The championship will continue with the standard chess category on June 21-22.
