Vietnam Paragliding Open to take off in Hoa Binh
The Viet Nam Paragliding Open Championship 2014 will be held in the northern province of Hoa Binh from October 30 to November 2.
The event has attracted paragliders from Viet Nam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Athletes will compete in seven rounds, with point total calculated at the end.
The tournament is co-organised by the Viet Nam Sports Administration, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoa Binh Province and Ha Noi Paragliding Club.
Miura urges Viet Nam to step up for friendly matches
Viet Nam's Japanese coach Toshiya Miura hoped his team would play wholeheartedly in upcoming friendly matches in HCM City.
Viet Nam will meet U23 Bahrain tomorrow and play South Korean student squad on November 4 at the Thong Nhat Stadium.
"I hope my players will try their best in preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup next month," the 51-year-old coach said.
The winner and loser will receive cash prizes of US$5,000 and $2,000, respectively, for each match.
Phung wins two gold medals in national event
Women's International Master Vo Thi Kim Phung won two gold medals at the National Top Athletes Chess Tournament, which ended in the northern province of Bac Giang over the weekend.
Bac Giang's Phung beat strong rivals Hoang Thi Bao Tram of Ha Noi and Ngo Thi Kim Tuyen of Quang Ninh, to take the lead in both the standard chess and blitz chess categories.
In the men's side, Grandmaster Dao Thien Hai of HCM City won the gold medal in the standard event. The silver and bronze medals went to Duong The Anh and To Nhat Minh respectively of the Military team.
Meanwhile, Lam Dong's Cao Sang won the blitz event, while Hanoian Nguyen Van Huy and HCM City's Hai were placed second and third respectively.
