Strong progress has been seen in all fields in Peru-Viet Nam bilateral ties during the past two decades, especially in economics, trade, investment and science and technology, Charge d'affaires ad interim of the Peruvian Embassy in Ha Noi Luis Tsuboyama has stated.
In an interview granted to the Viet Nam News Agency on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Viet Nam-Peru diplomatic relations, the diplomat noted that since the two countries set up diplomatic ties in November 14, 1994, they have signed many economic and trade agreements.
He emphasised that the establishment of the Peruvian Embassy in Ha Noi was a major step forward in bilateral relations, followed by robust political, diplomatic and trade partnership as well as closer people-to people contacts.
Tsuboyama said boosting economic and trade cooperation with Viet Nam has been one of the top priorities of Peru .
Over the past years, the two governments have reached consensus on focusing on beefing up partnership in the strong fields of each other, including agriculture, agro-industry, aquatic farming and mining, he noted.
Specifically, Viettel Group has entered the telecommunications market in Peru, while the Viet Nam National Oil and Gas Group has invested in energy area in the country, he said.
Meanwhile, a Peru-invested beverage company has taken shape in the southern province of Binh Duong , marking the entrance of Peruvian enterprises in Vietnam , he added.
Another firm from Peru is also scheduled to launch its high-class cruise tour service along the Mekong River from Ho Chi Minh City, he revealed.
However, the diplomat stated that the Peru-Viet Nam economic and trade ties has yet to match their great potential as well as the desire of both countries.
He pointed to the far geographic distance as one of the main challenges to the ties, as it pushes up trading cost, adding that a lack of market information is also a barrier.
Tsuboyama affirmed that the Peruvian Embassy is ready to support all measures, plan and cooperation programmes in order to further forge the partnership between the two countries, while encouraging visits by enterprises to each other's country.
Currently, the embassy is working closely with the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry to arrange for businesses of both countries to explore the market and seek partners in the other country, he said.
With a 90-million strong market and a fast growing economy, Viet Nam is a promising land with lots of opportunities for Peruvian enterprises, stated the diplomat.
