VietNamNet Bridge - The 15th ASEAN University Games (AUG-15) closed in Thailand on December 23.
Vietnam’s team competed in eight of total 17 events, and won 34 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals, and was ranked on the 4th position.
Meanwhile, the host, Thailand topped the list with 161 medals, including 54 golds. It was followed by Indonesia (147 medals) and Malaysia (115 medals).
Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Education, Chinnaworn Bunyahiat, said the AUG-15 is the biggest sports event for students in ASEAN region, contributing to strengthening solidarity, friendship and cooperation among the countries in the region.
At the closing ceremony, the flag of AUG was lowered and handed to Laos’ Minister of Education, who was representing the host of the upcoming 16th ASEAN University Games in 2012.
AUG takes place every two years. It is an opportunity for students from different parts of the region to engage in sports and cultural exchanges and promote mutual understanding.
