The Vietnamese COP 17 delegation has committed to cooperating closely with the international community in the struggle against climate change.

This was stated by Tran Hong Ha, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, at a press conference in Hanoi on December 15 announcing the results of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2011 (COP 17) and the 7th Session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (CMP7) to the Kyoto Protocol.

The delegation actively participated in important meetings, where they exchanged views with other participants to protect the nation’s interests, he said.

The head of the Vietnamese delegation also delivered a speech at the conference, announcing the country’s active response to climate change, as well as its viewpoint on the establishment of an international agreement to implement the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol after 2012.

The speech was favoured by many international delegates, Ha said.

The delegation also had bilateral meetings with representatives of countries which have cooperated with Vietnam in dealing with this issue.

During the conference, the UN Environment Programme spoke highly of Vietnam’s second announcement on climate convention and said it is willing to provide Vietnam with non-refundable aid and technical assistance for the building of the third announcement in 2012.

The Deputy Minister also reported the results of COP17-related conferences and said his Ministry will submit plans to implement the results in the future.

The Ministry will also take immediate action to access financial sources and scientific and technological advances, as well as promoting bilateral cooperation to adapt to climate change.
