At noon on September 19 (local time), in Washington DC, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met CEOs of the US’s leading corporations in the field of semiconductors.
American semiconductor enterprises praised Vietnam’s semiconductor industry development potential, especially the high-quality human resources and the increased improvement of enterprises and training establishments in Vietnam.
The participants at the meeting said the cooperation potential between Vietnamese and American partners in the industry is very high and significant for the relationship between the two countries in the new development period.
They exchanged views about investment cooperation opportunities in Vietnam, and suggested modes of cooperation between Vietnam and the US in order to successfully develop an ecosystem in the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, in which the US is the leading important strategic partner.
In the long term, US corporations may consider the possibility of setting up chip manufacturing factories in Vietnam.
Resources given priority
Chinh praised the presence of businesses at the meeting, which he believed shows the strong determination and clear evidence of US enterprises’ attention and support to opportunities to cooperate and develop the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.
This will help concretize the content of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with specific programs and projects that bring results and benefits to the two sides.
In addition to the existing cooperation, in the announcement on the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership, Vietnam and the US agreed to set science and technology and innovation as a new important pillar in the two countries’ relationship.
The head of the government of Vietnam proposed that the businesses of the two countries actively coordinate, and gather strength and intelligence to prioritize to develop several business fields which are Vietnam’s focus, including the semiconductor industry.
Applauding the semiconductor enterprises that have invested in Vietnam, contributing to promoting the upgrading of the Vietnam-US relations, the Prime Minister requested American semiconductor enterprises to continue to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises and make deeper, wider and bigger investments in Vietnam.
The cooperation will be implemented in all phases, from infrastructure development, technology transfer, and training to designing, production and distribution, with the participation of businesses and research units of both countries.
These will facilitate the improvement of human resources' quality, the capability of Vietnamese enterprises, and step by step help Vietnam become more engaged in the global semiconductor supply chains and undertake many different kinds of work, from designing and assembling to production, packaging and testing.
Chinh promised to create an equal and healthy business environment for investors to do business.
