VietNamNet Bridge – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s presence at the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2013 in Myanmar demonstrates Vietnam’s active international integration as well as its role and status in the region.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will lead a Vietnamese delegation to the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on June 6.

His trip is made at the invitation of WEF President Klaus Martin Schwab and Myanmar President Thein Sein.

Around 450 politicians and representatives from major economic groups and international organizations will attend the event, along with Prime Ministers from regional countries.

WEF 2013 is taking place amid a still struggling global economy however, East Asia is maintaining a relatively high growth rate of 7.8 percent this year.

ASEAN member countries are sparing no efforts to implement a master plan for ASEAN connectivity, aiming to build a united, three-pillared ASEAN community by 2015.

The WEF on East Asia is one of the most prominent forums in the region and this is the first time Myanmar has been selected to organise this event.

At last year’s WEF on East Asia, discussions focused on how the region's future will be shaped by connectivity and outlined the major outcomes of the meeting as well as the top priorities for the region's leaders.

This year, the forum will address the drastic changes in integration and comprehensive development.

In his address at the 2012 WEF on East Asia, PM Dung affirmed that Vietnam will continue coordinating with regional countries to promote cooperative initiatives with the aim of reinforcing security and peace in the region and improving the efficiency of cooperation in the East Asian region as well as the quality of the World Economic Forum.

In that spirit, PM Dung’s WEF 2013 speech will focus on emerging issues in regional integration, the great changes in Myanmar and solutions to cope with global challenges.

Mr Dung will share Vietnam’s experiences in socio-economic development, maintaining macro-economic stability, economic restructuring and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).

The PM’s trip also aims to boost cooperative relations between Vietnam and the WEF and strengthen Vietnam’s time-honoured friendship and bilateral cooperation with Myanmar.

PM leaves for World Economic Forum on East Asia

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on June 6 left Hanoi for the 22nd World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia in Myanmar’s capital city of Nay Pyi Taw at the invitation of the host country’s President U Thein Sein and WEF Chairman Klaus Schwab.

The three-day forum, entitled “Courageous Transformation for Inclusion and Integration” draws over 900 delegates, including over 500 business executives from 55 countries nationwide.

It will focus on three pillars, namely inspiring inclusive transformation, realising regional integration and scaling regional solutions for global resilience.
