The returnees came from 27 cities and provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Can Tho, An Giang, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Bac Ninh, Dien Bien, Tuyen Quang, Nghe An, and Ninh Binh.

Preliminary investigations showed that the majority showed signs of illegal border crossings or unauthorised employment in Cambodia. Cambodian authorities had detained them before handing them over to Vietnamese border guards.

After completing necessary procedures, the border guard station imposed administrative penalties on those involved in illegal entry or exit. Those who were found to have used proper legal channels for exit and re-entry were transferred to local police in their hometowns for additional verification and legal processing.

Since early 2025, the provincial Border Guard Command has taken custody of more than 250 Vietnamese citizens repatriated from Cambodia. Screening, verification, and investigation revealed that many had illegally crossed into the neighbouring country, often lured by job offers in the service sector. Reported job roles included attendants at karaoke venues, sales staff in online gaming platforms, posing as delivery couriers, or marketing investment schemes such as stock trading for Cambodia-based companies./.
