The first regular international flight organized after Vietnam lifted the international flight frequency restriction was VN675 of Vietnam Airlines from Ho Chi Minh City to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) recently confirmed that it had issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to notify airlines and aircraft operators around the world of Vietnam's removal of all restrictions on carrying passengers by air.

As of February 15, 2022, regular passenger flights have been organized between Vietnam and a number of countries and territories such as Japan, Korea, China, Taipei (China), Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Australia, Germany, Russia, France, UK, USA, Hong Kong (China), Malaysia, Turkey, Qatar, and the UAE.

For China, airlines only transport passengers from China to Vietnam. The route from Vietnam to China is limited due to China's Covid-19 prevention and control policy.

Air carriers currently exploiting international routes to and from Vietnam include Vietnamese airlines - Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines) with air routes to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Australia, Germany, the UK, France, Russia, USA; and foreign airlines - Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways (Japan), Korean Air, Asiana Airlines (Korea), China Airlines, Eva Air, Starlux (Taiwan), China Southern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines (China), Singapore Airlines, Tiger Air, Jetstar Asia (Singapore), Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines (Malaysia), Thai Vietjet, Thai Airways, Thai Smile (Thailand), Cambodia Angkor Air (Cambodia), Cathay Pacific, Hongkong Airlines (Hong Kong) , Qatar Airways (Qatar), Emirates (UAE), Turkish Airlines (Turkey), Air France (France).

Before the reopening of regular international air routes, the average number of international passengers to/from Vietnam was about 40,000-50,000 passengers/month. After Vietnam resumed some international routes in January 2022, the number of international visitors to/from Vietnam increased to over 103,000 in January 2022 and 153,000 by February 14, 2022.

Vietnam has so far reopened air routes to 20 countries and territories, compared to 28 in the 2019 winter flight schedule before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, a transport official has said.
