Representatives from many foreign nations and organizations have stated publicly that Vietnam has displayed the proper attitude accentuated by a consistent respect for international law.

Public opinion is virtually unanimous that China’s illegal installment of a drilling rig in Vietnam’ exclusive economic zone and continental shelf threatens the peace, stability and security in the East Sea.

As a big country, China needs to conduct itself in conformity with international standards and norms, in a manner consistent with Vietnam’s behaviour.

After Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s statement in Myanmar, Vietnam has created support and solidarity of ASEAN countries, and put pressure on China.  PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s statement is clear and sound.

“The Vietnamese Government is on the right track to resolve problems in the East Sea. As a major country in the region, I think China should demonstrate their role in building trust with neighbouring countries. With what is happening now, I hope China will realise this in the near future.”
