Son said Vietnam is grateful for the sincere support and assistance that the Russian people have given Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence, as well as in the present cause of national construction and development.
Meanwhile, Lavrov emphasized that Vietnam is one of Russia’s important and reliable traditional partners in the Asia-Pacific region. He hoped that the two sides would continue to make efforts to foster their partnership so as to bring more and more substantive results.
The two sides reviewed the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries’ leaders and discussed measures to promote the Vietnam – Russia comprehensive strategic partnership. They held that despite difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnam-Russia relations have developed positively in various fields.
The two ministers also reviewed cooperation between the two foreign ministries and agreed on future plans.
Minister Bui Thanh Son said Vietnam pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of international relations. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent stance on global issues, including the Ukraine conflict.
Minister Lavrov voiced Russia’s support for ASEAN’s central role in the regional structure, and believed that Vietnam would help Russia further strengthen cooperation with the region, including promoting the ASEAN-Russia strategic partnership.
The two ministers also spent time exchanging views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, and agreed to further strengthen coordination at regional and international forums.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov flew to Hanoi on July 5 for a two-day visit to Vietnam to mark the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia.
