Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MOLISA), Nguyen Van Hoi, announced that the highest Lunar New Year bonus for 2025 is 1.908 billion VND ($77,000), awarded to a senior management position at a foreign-invested enterprise in the electronics and IT sector in Ho Chi Minh City.
2024 salary overview
During the regular Government press conference on January 8, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi provided an overview of workers' salaries and 2025 Tet bonus plans.
The average monthly salary for 2024 was approximately 8.88 million VND ($358), a 4% increase compared to 2023’s 8.5 million VND ($343).
Average salaries across business sectors were:
State-owned enterprises (100% state capital): 10.91 million VND ($440) per month.
Private enterprises: 8.1 million VND ($327) per month.
Foreign-invested enterprises: 9.28 million VND ($374) per month.
Due to the proximity of the Gregorian New Year to the Lunar New Year, many businesses focused their resources on Lunar New Year bonuses.
The average New Year bonus was 1.46 million VND ($59) per employee, equivalent to 79% of the 2024 New Year bonus (1.85 million VND or $75).
The highest New Year bonus was 1.8 billion VND ($72,700), awarded to a senior manager at a foreign-invested wholesale food company in Ho Chi Minh City.
The average Tet bonus was 7.72 million VND ($311), a 13% increase from the 2024 Lunar New Year bonus of 6.85 million VND ($276).
The highest Tet bonus, 1.908 billion VND ($77,000), went to a senior manager at a foreign-invested electronics and IT company in Ho Chi Minh City.
Deputy Minister Hoi noted that beyond cash bonuses, many companies provide other forms of support for workers during Tet, including:
Tet gifts or shopping vouchers.
Li xi (lucky money).
Organized transportation or travel allowances for workers returning home.
Free bus tickets or financial assistance for transportation costs.
These initiatives aim to improve employee well-being and ensure they can enjoy the festive season with their families.
