The VND7 trillion (USD303 million) Thien Y Waste-to-power plant project located in Nam son Waste Treatment Complex in Soc Son District is divided into three phases. In the first phase, it will handle around 1,000 tonnes of solid waste per day.

Thien Y Waste-to-power plant is located in Soc Son District, Hanoi.

According to Nguyen Thi Hong Van, general director of the project investor Thien Y Environmental Energy JSC, once fully being put into operation, the plant can treat up to 4,000 tonnes of dry solid waste every day to generate roughly 75MW of electricity.

The Hanoi Department of Construction reported that the city needs to treat approximately 6,000 tonnes of waste on a daily basis, most of which is now buried. Between May and June, many areas in Hanoi faced a week-long garbage pileup due to the overloading of Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex.

The full operation of Thien Y Waste-to-power plant is expected to ease the problem and help reduce environmental pollution in the capital.

The plant was approved in 2017 and slated for being put into service in August 2020 but the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic slowed implementation.
