At the MMA Vietnam event held on October 11, the spotlight was on the highly anticipated bout between two top contenders in the 77kg weight class: Do Thanh Chuong and Ly Van Huynh.
In the opening minutes, Do Thanh Chuong took the initiative with a tight defensive approach, neutralizing Ly Van Huynh’s trademark left-leg kicks.
However, the Central Vietnam-born fighter, born in 1998, proved to be more than just a kicker.
He surprised his opponent with a precise left hook, breaking through Chuong’s guard and creating the perfect opportunity to strike.
Do Thanh Chuong managed to survive the first round, but just 1 minute and 34 seconds into round two, Ly Van Huynh unleashed a decisive ground-and-pound combination - pinning his opponent and delivering a series of powerful punches to secure a knock-out victory.
This commanding win marks the third time Ly Van Huynh has earned a place in the 77kg title bout.
His next opponent will be Jovidon Khojaev, the reigning champion in the 70kg division, who has recently announced a move up in weight class to pursue a second championship at Vietnam MMA.
In another highlight of the night, fighter Dinh Van Khuyen delivered the fastest knock-out of the event in the 56kg MMA Pro category.
He needed only 16 seconds to defeat Bui Dinh Khai, setting a new tournament record for the quickest KO.
