Despite a slight dip in June, the industry's overall output reflects significant activity in the motorbike sector.

According to the General Statistics Office report released on June 29, domestic enterprises produced an estimated 255,500 new motorbikes in June. This represents a 2.3% decrease compared to May, but a notable 17.1% increase compared to June 2023.

Over the first six months of 2024, the total production of new motorbikes reached 1,455,000 units, marking a slight 1.3% decline compared to the same period in 2023. January saw the highest production levels with 262,700 units, followed by a sharp drop to 163,800 units in February. Production then increased for three consecutive months, peaking at 261,500 units in May before declining in June.

Experts had predicted the June decrease due to a prolonged sluggish domestic market, persisting since after Tet. Many popular motorbike models that once commanded higher prices have now seen price reductions to attract customers.

The Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) comprises five members: Honda, Yamaha, SYM, Suzuki, and Piaggio. Honda and Yamaha each produce and distribute 27 motorcycle models, SYM offers 12 models, Suzuki 23 models, and Piaggio 10 models. These manufacturers not only serve the domestic market but also export complete motorcycles to various countries and territories.

Besides VAMM members, several other domestic and foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises, including VinFast, DatBike, Pega, Yadea, and Detech, are involved in the production of electric motorcycles. Although these companies produce a substantial output, they do not disclose specific sales figures.
