As of now, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has not yet finalized the international friendly match schedule for the Vietnam national team to prepare for the AFF Cup 2024.
"Due to several reasons, we have not been able to announce the friendly match schedule for the Vietnam national team during the FIFA Days in September and October. However, the VFF is committed to providing the best conditions for Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team to prepare for the AFF Cup 2024," a VFF official stated.
In a recent announcement on August 5, the VFF detailed the plans for the U17, U20, and U23 Vietnamese teams for 2024. Meanwhile, information about the national team remains "on hold."
According to sources, the VFF and its partners have been working on organizing two international friendly tournaments during the FIFA Days in September and October 2024. However, the parties involved have yet to reach an agreement on several contract terms, primarily concerning financial, travel, accommodation, and match location issues.
Initially, the Vietnam national team might play friendlies against Thailand and Russia (or Panama) in September, followed by two matches against India and Lebanon in October. These quality opponents are expected to help Coach Kim Sang Sik's team prepare for the AFF Cup 2024 campaign.
If the friendly match against Thailand becomes a reality, it will undoubtedly be highly anticipated, as Vietnam and Thailand are fierce rivals in the region, making even a friendly match intense.
However, Quang Hai and his teammates are anxiously awaiting the confirmation of these opponents. Regardless of the opponent, the Vietnam national team hopes to finalize the schedule soon to focus on their technical preparations.
If there are no changes, the Vietnam national team will gather in early September 2024, with over a week of training and friendly matches during the September FIFA Days. The next training camp for Coach Kim Sang Sik's team is scheduled for mid-October, while the November camp must be adjusted as the AFF Cup 2024 has been postponed by nearly two weeks from its original schedule.
During each training camp, Coach Kim Sang Sik has different objectives, such as experimenting with personnel and tactics. Therefore, knowing the opponents in advance will allow the Korean strategist to create the most suitable plan.
