On September 29, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) held a commemorative event to mark 80 years of the post and telecommunications sector and 66 years of the science and technology sector, along with the first National Patriotic Emulation Congress.
More than 2,700 delegates were expected to attend the event, including nearly 2,000 retired officials who have contributed to both sectors over the years. Alongside the formal ceremony, the event featured an exhibition showcasing the achievements of the two sectors, structured around a historical timeline. The display traced five major phases of Vietnam’s development: from wartime resistance to reconstruction, innovation, international integration, and the journey toward a new era.
A wide range of significant artifacts was on display, including weapons, telegraph machines, robots, a model nuclear reactor, 5G devices, radar equipment, the Vinasat-1 satellite, and many other valuable items.
A highlight of the event was the digital museum area, where data on more than 162,000 officials from across the sectors’ history has been digitized. Guests could search for personal information, colleagues, or past leaders, offering an opportunity to reconnect with their own memories tied to the sector.
Another dedicated space honored fallen heroes from the post and telecommunications and science and technology sectors. The information of more than 10,000 martyrs was stored in a central database, along with details of cemeteries nationwide.
This feature held particular significance as, outside of the military, these two sectors recorded the highest number of casualties during the resistance wars against the French and Americans.
The Ministry also unveiled a commemorative stamp series celebrating the 80-year milestone, along with a “golden book” chronicling key figures, events, and images from different developmental periods.
During the ceremony, the Ministry of Science and Technology received the First-Class Labor Order from the Party and State. Minister Nguyen Manh Hung was also awarded the First-Class Fatherland Defense Order in recognition of the outstanding contributions by both the ministry and its head in advancing science, technology, and post and telecommunications.
The event served as a moment to honor the proud legacy of the sectors, express gratitude to past generations, and inspire a renewed spirit of innovation. It reaffirmed the sectors' commitment to lead in the new era, where science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are central drivers of national development.
