At the Ho Chi Minh Road project section from Chon Thanh to Duc Hoa, contractors have completed the asphalt pavement on the bridges and are now preparing to paint road markings and install lighting systems. However, construction at the intersections of DT744, DT748, and DT749 remains delayed due to unresolved site clearance.

The Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section of the Ho Chi Minh Road is taking shape, offering a mesmerizing view from above. This segment stretches 72.75 kilometers and has a total investment of approximately 2.3 trillion VND (around 94 million USD). The road passes through three provinces in southern Vietnam’s key economic region: Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, and Tay Ninh.

The project is divided into three construction packages. The segment running through Ho Chi Minh City spans 31.5 kilometers, from Tru Van Tho commune to the Saigon River at the Tay Ninh border. This portion is under package XL-01, executed by Deo Ca Group, with a construction value of over 681 billion VND (about 27.8 million USD).

The project was resumed in November 2023 to complete unfinished work and strengthen the regional connection between the Southeast, Central Highlands, and Mekong Delta.

The Ho Chi Minh Road section through Ho Chi Minh City includes six bridges: Phuoc Hoa Canal, Cay Truong, Ba Tu, Thi Tinh, Suoi Tre, and Thanh An. In the photo, the Thanh An Bridge, over 600 meters long, spans the Saigon River.

This is the largest bridge of the project, with an investment of approximately 180 billion VND (roughly 7.3 million USD). It consists of 12 pillars and a vertical clearance of 7 meters, allowing large vessels to pass easily.

From above, the road winds through vast rubber plantations. Contractors are working on tasks such as painting markings and installing concrete guideposts.

According to the master plan, the Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section of Ho Chi Minh Road will eventually be upgraded to a six-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 km/h. For now, it is being developed with two lanes, with expansion planned in line with regional development needs.

Despite being nearly ready for operation, construction is still hindered by land clearance at the DT744, DT748, and DT749 intersections. In the image, the DT744 intersection branch from Thanh An Bridge remains unfinished due to this issue.

Additionally, the median at the DT744 intersection has not been removed, blocking full traffic flow along the route.

At the approach to Thanh An Bridge on the Ho Chi Minh City side, the contractor is urgently working on backfilling with K95 and K98 materials and leveling with crushed stone. Due to delayed site handovers and infrastructure clearance, work has only recently begun.

Workers are gradually installing traffic signs and safety equipment along the route.

The Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section of Ho Chi Minh Road is part of the planned western North-South expressway. This project is expected to stimulate economic and social development, attract investment, and expand the industrial, commercial, tourism, and service landscape of the region.
