On the evening of October 27, at the 2025 Asian Youth Games, weightlifter Nguyen Thanh Duy clinched Vietnam’s first gold medal while setting a new Asian youth record in the men's 65kg clean and jerk category.

Although Thanh Duy placed only fourth in the snatch event, he maintained confidence and determination as he entered the clean and jerk phase. Methodically progressing through each lift, he successfully hoisted 156kg, officially breaking the Asian youth record and rising to the top of the standings.

The moment his Chinese rival failed to lift 157kg brought an eruption of joy for the Vietnamese weightlifting team. Thanh Duy, a young athlete from Khanh Hoa, not only claimed gold but also became a symbol of resilience and strength for the new generation of Vietnamese athletes.

With this historic victory, the Vietnamese delegation concluded an emotional day with 1 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals, igniting hope for breakthroughs in the upcoming days of the tournament.
