Shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet announced the squad list for the women's national team in preparation for SEA Games 33. One of the most notable absences is that of Bich Tuyen.

Previously, Bich Tuyen withdrew from the 2025 World Championship. Following that, the coaching staff of Ninh Binh Club registered her as a... physiotherapist for the second stage of the national championship. Since she did not play in any matches, it comes as no surprise that the 25-year-old was left off the national team roster.

However, some experts believe coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s decision not to call up Bich Tuyen is also aimed at avoiding complications related to gender verification tests, which SEA Games 33 organizers have announced will be strictly enforced.

Also missing from the newly announced roster are Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Tran Thi Bich Thuy. Thanh Thuy is currently playing for Gunma Green Wings in Japan, while Bich Thuy is set to depart for Japan in the coming days. Both players are expected to return and join the national team before SEA Games 33 kicks off.

The current squad includes several young players from the Vietnam U21 team. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has handed a rare opportunity to 17-year-old spiker Quynh Huong, alongside promising talents such as Le Nhu Anh, Ha Kieu Vy, Nguyen Phuong Quynh, Bui Thi Anh Thao, and Le Thuy Linh.

As scheduled, the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team will train in Quang Ninh for nearly two months to prepare for the SEA Games, with the goal of competing for the gold medal.
