Vietnam says goodbye to BIDC Cup

Vietnamese players had to say goodbye to the 2013 Mekong Region U23 International Football Tournament (BIDC Cup 2013) after it was defeated 0-2 by Thailand rivals in a match in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on November 6.

After two marches, the Vietnamese squad returned home with no win, three losses and two red cards.

The Thai, Myanmar, Malaysian and Cambodian teams were qualified for the semi-finals. They will compete for the finals on November 8.

National badminton tournament begins in Bac Giang

The National Badminton Top Players Championships 2013 - Li Ning Cup officially kicked off in the northern province of Bac Giang on November 5.

The tournament has attracted 60 leading players from 14 cities, provinces and government branches across the country. Some of the top players at the event are Nguyen Hoang Nam, Bui Quang Tuan, Ho Nguyen Vinh Quang, Vu Thi Trang, Nguyen Thị Sen, Le Thuy Huyen, Nguyen Thuy Linh and Dinh Thi Phuong Hong.

They are competing in five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

After the opening ceremony, the first exciting matches of the women’s singles event took place. Vu Thi Trang of Bac Giang beat Hanoian Pham Nhu Thao 2-0. Dinh Thi Phuong Hong (Thai Binh) defeated Do Phuong Mai (Quang Ninh) 2-0, and Le Thu Huyen (Hanoi) beat Nguyen Thuy Linh (Da Nang) by the same score.

The nation’s leading player, Nguyen Tien Minh, is sitting this tournament out to prepare for the VIKTOR China Open 2013, which runs from November 12-17 in Shanghai.

The tournament – held jointly by the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Bac Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Li Ning Company – goes until November 9.
